Common questions about how SPA Alumni relates to the School, membership fees, and who can join.
Q. What is the relationship between SPA and SPA Alumni?
A. SPA Alumni is an autonomous body, registered under the Societies Registration Act. It is recognised by SPA New Delhi as its official Alumni Association, and the Director of SPA is the Association's Patron. The School provides physical and infrastructural support, but does not fund or run the Association.
Q. Does SPA give SPA Alumni any money?
A. No. The Association receives no grant or funds from SPA New Delhi and operates solely on the membership fees paid by its members.
Q. I paid Student Association fees to the School — why am I not a member?
A. The Student Association and SPA Alumni are separate organisations, with no correlation between the two.
Q. I paid Alumni fees as part of my School fees — why am I not a member?
A. Membership requires two things: a completed membership form, and receipt of the full membership fee. The School has, for some years, collected fees on the Association's behalf, but the Association only grants membership once it actually receives a member's fee and form from the School — and a partial payment, or a payment without a form, will not have completed that process.
Q. What is the membership fee?
A. Life membership is Rs. 2,500 for those living in India or a SAARC country, and USD 500 for those living elsewhere. There is no separate annual membership — SPA Alumni offers life membership only.
Q. I think I paid part of the fee — what should I do now?
A. Register for membership and pay the full life membership fee. If the School later transfers a part-payment you made with clear supporting details, the Association will refund it to you.
Q. What do I get by becoming a member?
A. As with any voluntary society, SPA Alumni is composed, run and directed by its members. Membership supports a sense of community among alumni, the current student body and the profession — which only works if members participate.
Q. I'm a member — why do I have to pay for the reunion dinner?
A. Routine meetings like the GBM are usually followed by simple refreshments. Larger reunion get-togethers cost more, so members contribute toward them rather than the Association drawing down its funds — sponsorships help cover the rest. A registration charge also gives the Association a reliable headcount, so arrangements aren't wasteful.
Q. Who decides how SPA Alumni is run?
A. The Constitution (Memorandum of Association) and the Association's Rules and Regulations govern how it functions, including how the Executive Committee and office bearers are elected.
Q. I'm an architect, but not an SPA graduate — can I join?
A. No. Membership is limited to graduates of SPA New Delhi.
